During your first appointment, I will find out what is most important to you, areas you feel stuck, and goals you’d like to achieve. Depending on what you would like to achieve, you may learn some specific techniques you can implement that first week. Every session you will have one or more action steps assigned. It may involve practicing a mental focusing technique, implementing a behavioral change, or practicing an exercise to increase emotional agility and resiliency.
Yes, video and phone sessions can be a convenient and effective means of coaching, especially if you travel often, live in another state or country, or simply prefer the convenience of receiving coaching in the comfort of your home. Video and phone sessions can easily be arranged.
I work with clients age 18 and older. I also work with adolescents and children who have performance anxiety related to sports or the performing arts.
It depends on what is being addressed, how many concerns you have, and how complex each concern is. This can be discussed during a free, 20 minute telephone consultation.
All sessions are 50 minutes.
I offer 3 month and 6 month coaching packages, in addition to a pay-as-you-go session fee. The packages are slightly discounted. Please contact me for more information. Checks, cash, and credit cards are accepted.
No, health insurance does not cover coaching or hypnotherapy used for coaching purposes. Health insurance companies require that a person meet specific diagnostic criteria and receive treatment that is specifically targeted to reduce or resolve those symptoms. A coach does not diagnosis or treat mental health issues.
The International Coaching Federation defines coaching as “partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential. Professional coaching focuses on setting goals, creating outcomes and managing personal change. Coaching supports personal and professional growth based on self-initiated change in pursuit of specific actionable outcomes. These outcomes are linked to personal or professional success. The primary focus is on creating actionable strategies for achieving specific goals in one’s work or personal life.”
Therapy (psychotherapy), focuses on healing past events to help a person move forward. The American Psychological Association defines therapy as a process in which the clinician “helps people of all ages live happier, healthier and more productive lives. Clinicians apply research-based techniques to help people develop more effective habits. Psychotherapy is a collaborative treatment based on the relationship between an individual and a clinician. A clinician provides a supportive environment that allows you to talk openly with someone who is objective, neutral and nonjudgmental. Most therapy focuses on individuals, although psychotherapists also work with couples, families and groups.”
Hypnotherapy and NLP are techniques and processes that can be used as an adjunct to coaching or therapy. Similarly, meditation, mental rehearsal exercises, or guided imagery are “techniques” that can be used to augment therapy, coaching, personal growth, and general well being.
